Cinnamon Apple Crisp

With fall comes the beautiful flavors of cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, and pecans. With the crisp air arriving and trees starting to change, it’s officially… APPLE SEASON! One of the prettiest and tastiest seasons of them all!

While I love a good ol’ apple pie, I also love quick desserts that don’t take a ton of time and dedication. Sometimes a delicate dessert that you have to nurture is fun, but other times it’s nice to have something quick. That is where this delicious, nourishing, and perfectly balanced apple crisp comes in.

Not only is this one of the easiest desserts ever, but it also fills your home with the sweet aromas of fall. If you’re having guests over, it’s the perfect all-in-one dessert and air freshener! But seriously, it smells like an amazing fall candle and tastes even better… you will LOVE it!

How it’s Made

This nutty, scrumptious, and spiced dessert is assembled within only 20 minutes before being placed in the oven to bake. Once it comes out, you have an amazingly easy and simple dessert that your family or friends will LOVE! Oh and the ice cream on top? Duh! It balances the sugar perfectly, adding creaminess and softness to each scrumptious spoonful.

You start this dessert by first cutting your apples. You can choose pretty much any apple that you love, although I tend to like Fiji or Granny Smith the best. Then, you combine your apples with brown sugar, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, until all the apples are coated. Next, you pour the apple mixture into a prepared baking dish and set aside.

Now for the nutty and scrumptious topping: combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, oats, and pecans. Using a pastry cutter or your hands, incorporate all of the butter into the dry ingredients. You don’t want to the butter to melt too fast, so make sure you work fast on this step. Once everything is combined into a crumbly mixture, you simply pour the crumble topping over the apples until the top is covered. Place in the oven and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. And… WALA! You have an amazing fall dish that was easy, simple, AND made your house smell like the yankle candle store! What’s not to love?!

Cinnamon Apple Crisp

Time: 1 hour | Serves: 4

Ingredients:

— For the Filling: —

  • 4 medium apples, cut into small strips (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fiji, or your favorite apple combo!)

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt

— For the Crumble Topping: —

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup butter, cold

  • 1/2 cup oats

  • 1/4 cup pecans, finely chopped (or however big you would like them)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. In a medium bowl, make the filling by adding the sliced apples, flour, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt. Mix together until combined and place in a 9x9 ceramic baking dish.

  3. Next, make the crumble topping. Add the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, oats, and pecans to a small bowl. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, combine the ingredients until it creates a crumble. You will want to work fast so the butter doesn’t get to warm and melt.

  4. Pour the crumble on top of the filling. Lightly move the crumble around with your hands until evenly distributed.

  5. Place in the oven and bake for 45 minutes or until the sides are bubbling, apples are tender, and the crumble is golden brown. Serve with vanilla ice cream overtop and enjoy!
